Effective Ways to Share Videos with Free Web Video Hosting Sites

The question is often asked, "Where can I share my videos online for free?" There are so many web video hosting sites that the question might be restated in two parts: "What is the best way for me to submit my videos to free video hosting sites?" And, "Which videos share sites should I submit them to?"

When I first got involved with doing a home video post, I turned to submitter services. I heard a great deal about Tube Mogul and Traffic Geyser. But, before getting involved with either I decided to get an in-depth understanding of the services they provide.

The first step was to obtain a list of the free video hosting sites to which they submit. Below is the list of free video hosting sites used by Tube Mogul:

It is obvious that there is very little overlap in the free video hosting sites used by each company. In fact, there are only 5 sites that they both submit to: video.yahoo.com, viddler.com, youtube.com, blip.com and revver.com.

I next wanted to experience uploading a video to each of the sites used by both companies. I am really glad I did that because it turned out that many of the sites were inappropriate for my purposes, or they weren’t functional.

My conclusion after doing this research was that most of the sites being utilized by both Tube Mogul and Traffic Geyser were inappropriate for my use.

I decided that the best approach would be for me to upload my home video by myself to a limited number of sites.

The list I developed contains a fraction of those sites used by Traffic Geyser and Tube Mogul, along with some additional sites that I came across. They are as follows:

Over time, with more experience, I will probably trim this list.

My conclusion from this exploration is that utilizing video submitter services might be the quick and easy route. However, it might not be as effective as doing it manually to a select group of free video file hosting sites.

Any video hosting sites that accept .mts files?
I was a member of motionbox (pro account) which allowed me to upload huge .mts files without any converting. They have now been bought by hp shutterfly and no longer offer .mts compatibility for .mts files. Does anyone know of any site that still offers this functionality?

Having routinely been uploading videos to YouTube, it’s a pain to have to do the same in Facebook. I don’t want to post links, or embed a youtube player in my wall. I want to be able to pull the file from YouTube into the native Facebook interface.

I want to watch anime pretty much all the time, but we have limited bandwidth and if I watch a lot of it then we have crappy internet for a while. Free Radio/Video Streaming Hosting Sites? I Can’t Keep ORB & Computer On 24/7.?

Hosting Video Sharing Sites?
I am about to start a video sharing site and I am wondering what is the best way to go since the site has not even started yet and has no visitors.

Should I go with a Virtual Host that will provide me with FFMPEG hosting for about 10 bucks a month or less and will give me unlimited bandwidth and storage.

A VPS that will give me unlimited transfer/2MBPS and 100GB storage for 30 bucks a month.

Do I really need to start out with a VPS since the site will initially not be receiving much traffic?

How long would a Virtual account last me before I had to move to VPS or dedicated server?

The most important question is about how long a virtual account would last me and how much could the site transfer before experiencing heavy lag…

For instance, lets say most of the videos were about 50MB in size, with a video site hosted on a virtual account, how many users could view this video before the site would experience a lot of lag?
I didnt really mean how long in terms of time, I meant how long in terms of size, like how many visitors would my site be able to handle while on a virtual account before having to move to a VPS or dedicated server, how much can my site grow before I have to move to a VPS/dedicated server.

And as far as the lag goes, I was trying to get a comparison on what the difference in lag will be like between a site hosted on a VPS and a site hosted on a virtual account, each with very small amounts of traffic.

How do video hosting sites and file hosting sites avoid lawsuits?
Hey all.

Not too long ago I was considering building a video hosting site inspired by Youtube, but about 2 hours into the development (lol) I had second thoughts, as mentioned to me by a few peers, I could run into a few issues regarding copyright laws.

This does beg to ask the question, how do those huge sites like Youtube, rapidshare, etc avoid lawsuits when they’re facilitating illegal viewing and / or downloading of copyrighted material?

Because of the DMCA safe harbor clause. The precedent was established in the Viacom vs. YouTube case (look it up if it interests you). The hosting sites have to respond to DMCA notices but as long as they remove the content (assuming that it is infringing) then they are not liable for that content. If they do not remove it then a lawsuit will follow.

My Digital Camera Videos are over 100MB – wont upload to sites & wont send in emails- can I Resize them?
They are Quiktime Videos from my Olympus Digital Camera
my old camera I had no problems with the videos – but with this NEW camera – I cant send the videos in Emails cause they are TOO large – I cant upload them to video hosting sites and I cant even Edit them on the Video Editing program that I have – cause its says the video file is incompatible !!!

Free Hosting sites for pics and videos?
I am looking for a site like photobucket. I own a forum site and bandwidth is not great so rather than upload pics and videos directly to site I want to suggest to users they use a hosting site. However there is a catch. We have a section on site called “Mature Content”, this section allows adult pics and videos on it. so I need a hosting site that allows such pics/videos as photobucket does not

Acually, you can make good slideshows on photobucket. Just upload pictures and music, and you can add a lot of effects right there on photobucket, and the quality will probably be better.

Well, like the question asks, what are some video hosting sites which offer streaming playback (like YouTube), in their native resolutions (unlike YouTube)?

You Tube has started to grow the wrong way on me. At first it was this “oh so great” video site. Now, I notice video after video at cruddy quality levels, making most of them even a waste of time to watch. For this reason, it would be apparent that a “better” hosting site will prevail through this Youtube age we are at.

Let’s hear what you feel is the “best” currently. Remember, they must offer video streaming, not just a file hosting site.

Random Pixelation when watching videos on YouTube and other video hosting sites?
Recently, I have been getting random black areas on the screen when I watch videos- only on the Internet. Although there is some minor pixelation of viewing anime (downloaded seperately) the problems instantly resolves within 5 seconds of the video file running. However Youtube videos seem to have certain black spots of pixels randomly appearing and some times there are white pixels appearing onto black backgrounds- for example RayWilliamJohnson’s title transistions. I have scanned my computer for viruses but none are found and I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with viruses anyway, I’m not a technical guy in terms of disassembling the PC so I need methods of fixing this via the computer itself- although this is a minor problem some videos seem to have half of the video literally chopped off with black pixels.

Not enough ram, internet connection is too slow, or the cpu is not fast enough to process the video as it runs, or too many processes running in the background which adding more ram might help.
See if you kill some processes running in the background that you don’t need running constantly.

A few weeks ago I looked at a cool new web service that allows you to upload your videos to several video hosting sites at once. They had interfaces for YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video, AOL Video, Metacafe, etc on one page. Great!

Yeah… good luck with that. There’s no host that provides enough bandwidth and storage for something like that without charging. And the required bandwidth alone will cost a small fortune… especially if you plan to allow people to embed videos on other sites like YouTube does.

I want to embed a video into my website that others can watch, just like a YouTube video. However, I don’t want my video to be public on YouTube: just on my own site.

Are there any FREE video hosting providers that allow you to do this? I can’t find any anywhere.

Just to confirm: I want to embed a video to be visible on my website, but private on the host website.

You can start your own video website for free at http://www.thevillage.com. You can select “private” in the signup form and then you can choose who gets invited to your website and they would have to login to see the videos.

Are there any free video hosting sites that DON’T stick a watermark logo on your embedded videos?
OK I’m too lazy to do the research(!) But maybe someone knows already whether there are any sites out there that can host video, play back at decent quality and not brand your movies with a big logo stamp? Want to use it for a professional (but too cheap to pay) online show reel and a big YouTube logo in the corner would look very tacky…

You should check out Vimeo, it’s really slick. No big logo while it’s playing (in fact, the whole controller vanishes when the mouse is moved off or stays still) and a few other perks as well.

Also, there was one other decent one but I forgot the name. So that’s not super useful. I could probably dig it up for you if you can’t find anything else good in your answers.

it sure sucks what they did to your video… but they do it to all videos, if you want better presentation of your vids, you need to find a better place to host them.

Youtube is for the masses, not the discerning!

hosting place for possibly “offensive” videos to embed on a website (not pornographic)?
I visit a website which hosts videos of someone interviewing people on the street.. getting into arguments and weird things.

He is famous through a radio show and there is an online community who flag all his videos as offensive. They were all removed and his account suspended at youtube, and now they have all been removed from Katura.com.

I think the grounds for removal was probably as they could be seen to involve “hassling members of the public”. He’s done things like make fun of street entertainers.

Do you know of any video hosting sites that are free.. or cheap.. allow videos to be embedded elsewhere.. and would be less likely to remove the videos?

Know and good high quality video hosting sites?
Okay so, i was TOTALLY let down when stage 6 closed down.
Now i want a site i can maybe host some anime on.
i’d love it if the site used divx format, but if it dsnt then i dont mind so long as it can post 30 min good quality videos.

A video hosting site to hold videos of our track team?
I have a great new video camera and I was wondering where I would upload videos of my track team doing different events. It would be great if everyone on the track team could access them. They would be a bunch of individual videos, so I’m trying to find a site that could display all the videos on one page with all the titles of the videos, and people could just click on them to watch.

I can just send the site link to people on the team (Of course I’d get permission from everyone before taping, just in case there were objections)

Making site personal site to host videos?
I’ve started making videos with my new software (Power Director 3) but because of the music I use it violates some form of copyright, so Youtube mutes the video, which defeats the point. I want to put together my own site to host them on, but they are over 100MB and none of the sites I’ve found will let me upload files that big. Has anyone got any suggestions of sites I could try? Or is there a way around youtube’s copyright blocker?

i wanna post some clips from a tv show onto the net — it wasn’t released on DVD region 1 so i had to go through a lot to get it on dvd… now i wanna post some clips on you tube or metacafe or daily motion for others to see — but i don’t wanna post them just to get them deleted.. are there any video hosting sites that have little to no interest in enforcing copyright restrictions?
