Which Web Site Hosting Company Should You Use for Your Website?

Finding web hosting for your website. There are so many companies out there that provide web host services that the process of finding the right company can be quite daunting.

In this article I will write about certain things you should look for as you think about signing up with a web provided.

In a way, the things you want out of a web site hosting provider are similar to the things you want out of any company that provides you a service.

What do you think of this site; would you use it?
I’ve started developing a site, but before I finish it off and release it, I want to get peoples’ opinion on it – there’s no use in publishing the site if nobody wants to use it. So, here’s the idea:

The site will be a cross between file hosting/sharing, social networking and social bookmarking. Upon signing up to the site, you’re given a vault where you can upload files – the idea is to fill your vault with your favourite websites, YouTube videos and all other online content. In addition to that, you’ll be able to upload actual files – images, videos, homework, other documents etc. So far, everything seems pretty standard. Now, what if you were able to add your friends on the site so you can view their vaults and they can view yours? The idea is to share your favourite content with all of your friends by storing it in your vault where you and said friends can access it and view links/download files. You’d have a customizable profile that would just include your name and your interests – perhaps a little about yourself too.

If you think the idea sucks, feel free to voice your opinion. If you love the idea, tell me why. Overall I just want to know if you’d use it or not. Thanks in advance!

Random Pixelation when watching videos on YouTube and other video hosting sites?
Recently, I have been getting random black areas on the screen when I watch videos- only on the Internet. Although there is some minor pixelation of viewing anime (downloaded seperately) the problems instantly resolves within 5 seconds of the video file running. However Youtube videos seem to have certain black spots of pixels randomly appearing and some times there are white pixels appearing onto black backgrounds- for example RayWilliamJohnson’s title transistions. I have scanned my computer for viruses but none are found and I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with viruses anyway, I’m not a technical guy in terms of disassembling the PC so I need methods of fixing this via the computer itself- although this is a minor problem some videos seem to have half of the video literally chopped off with black pixels.

Not enough ram, internet connection is too slow, or the cpu is not fast enough to process the video as it runs, or too many processes running in the background which adding more ram might help.
See if you kill some processes running in the background that you don’t need running constantly.

How to display my most recent uploaded YouTube video on my site?
I am making a site and i wish to create a html code that automatically changes to my recently uploaded YouTube video. I wish for it to continue doing so as i continue uploading newer videos. Do you have any idea of how to do this? Just like the main video when you open up your channel. I know you can change a html code every time you upload a new video but that is too much of a pain and i figured a html that does that for you would be great. Any suggestions?

Additional info:
I am creating a fan site for my YouTube channel.
The site i am creating is hosted by webs.com

High Speed Web Hosting!?
Ok i’m looking into a good fast web hosting site. There will be videos and lot of uploading to the site. I don’t want to get stuck with a host that has slow response time on load. I was looking on highspeedweb.net but i’m really not sure how good they are. has anyone had any issues with them? I also considered powweb.com, but i was reading that when your site starts getting alot of traffic your site delays alot. I just want to get something reliable for now and dont want to purchase a dedicated server at the moment. any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone know a good video hosting site?
I’m looking for a good video hosting site thats not hung up on deleting vids over stupid TOS. My recent one got deleted from revver and veoh cuz I dont own mozart music (like he’s gonna sue >_> )and the pics came from deviantart,which gave me permission to use them.A lot of people say they hate youtube,but the only video they deleted was my OVA (one more due to having already d/l it) I tried blip.tv-but they delete the whole profile instead of the vid,veoh wont process it,I just want a hosting site I can upload my vids,thats not breaking tos laws (its a fan vid ffs),without fear of it being deleted or my account being removed.Anyone know a good site I dont trust tinypic or photobucket(takes too long and if they remove the vid they’ll remove your whole account too) Thanks in advance!

starting an adult website?
Hello,
I have a couple of questions for anyone that can help me. First of all the thing that has always stopped me is that I want to know how I can register a domain name but not be found by “who is” or something like that – for security reasons I need to be anonymous.

Secondly – I took a look at one of those “quantum” type sites – they build, host your site for free (until you make $1000 and they take 10%) but more my point is – would I then be bound to them?

Any clues on the best way to go would be appreciated – I plan on using all my own material and nothing else – from photos, videos & literature.

Need html genius! Need to know how to embed one video player on my page but have different videos play in it?
I noticed there are a lot of music players online where you can type in a bunch of mp3 URLs and then have the different songs randomly play in one player which you can embed to a web site.

Is there such a thing for embedding video onto your web page? I want to have one player on my site but have different videos randomly play on it.. how can i do this?

Selling how to videos?
I wrote a question on selling how-to videos mdigital gave me this answer :If you want to control the media (ie. sell How to videos) you just need to purchase a domain name, purchase web hosting space and write a simple script (php, perl, etc) that allows users to signup and access your site.

This is exactly what I want to do. I want to make my own videos and give people the opportunity to log in to my site and download a video I have made to their computer.
Can anyone expound on how I can do this ie how do I write a script; how do I setup a login type website, how do I upload video that can be downloaded by others for a charge.

You can do this using static HTML code but I would suggest you need to learn PHP, MySQL or some other dynamic HTML coding language to make your site use “published content” which will make future changes to the site easier and makes publishing new videos a more simple task.

Learning to code websites at that level is no easy task so you would be better to pay an experienced developer of this type of site to setup and code your site for you

You also need to consider whether you want to let the users download the videos or merely stream them off the server

I was planning on making a site that is divided into sections in which the scripts would be seperate things (or both be the same, if it works out that way)

Site 1/2: This idea is sort of the place to get something out there, whether it is advertising and promoting your website, or maybe you have videos or music you have created to show off to other people. Other than that, that is all I can explain. Basically you can submit something of you own after you make an account and the data is in your profile with a whole system like that.

Site 2/2: This one is sort of the streaming and support area. You can download your favorite TV shows online via file hosting link (not direct or else the host would get all ticked off), or being able to go to the tech support and being able to get help, or you can have a page to show off music and videos. YOu make your account and then you can have your own profile sort of like a myspace. You can make pages to represent yoru collection of something

googles custom search does not support images, videos, shopping, and more.

Why won’t online videos play on my computer?
Any websites that feature online videos, including Youtube, have trouble loading on my computer. Even small video adds that appear onscreen on non-video hosting sites require a lot of time just to play.

For example, minute-long videos that should normally load quickly and smoothly because of their length take up to three minutes on my computer. I have to pause the video, wait for it to load very slowly, and then watch it, up until the point where it stops again.
While short videos take long to load, longer ones won’t even being to. So, watching an episode of a show, normally around twenty minutes long, is out of the question for me.

I’ve looked under Youtube’s Help section and made sure I have the latest update of Java and that it is enabled in my browser. I’ve also downloaded the latest Adobe Flash, but still, nothing works at the speed it should.

Your help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Oracle or CCNA for getting a well paid job?
Let me explain, I’m not from a compuer background perse. I am a broadcast journalist and I want to change careers to get a well paid job. I enrolled to do a computer course which leads you well up to degree level but someone told me that I should just concentrate on certifications and work for a couple of years since I already have a degree, even though it’s not in Computers. (Brodcast journalism BA). Anyways, what would be the best certification for me to take? CCNA/ CISCO or Oracle.

I’ve heard some pro’s and cons so let me outline them and you all can be the judge.

Oracle certification is shorter than the CCNA (I heard that I would have to first do CISCO so it would mean paying for two certifications and studying longer).

Oracle will help me more if I’m interested in starting my own sort of business or product. Some ppl also said that after working for a couple of years with an Oracle certification and a video journalism background, I could merge my journalism degree with what I’ve learnt and create and manage a news site or a video hosting site. They also said that it allows you to work by yourself and there’s more potential to be an enterpreneur. However, the CCNA is very different from Media or Journalism and I would be starting a fresh in a completly new industry which would put my previous experience to a big waste.

On the other hand I heard that Networking is more of a reliable career as oracle as a language might become outdated.

Furthermore, companies are likely to retain networking people more because Oracle developers come and go for the big bucks.

It’s takes a shorter time to sharpen your skills in networking than it does in Oracle. I’ve done some programming b4 and know 4 sure that to become good programmer, you must practise endlessly for a long time b4 it really pays off.

So I hope i’ve explained myself and made things clear, Database (Oracle) or Networking (CCNA) given my background and careers goals.

As what you have quoted in above question, If you are already working in Broadcast Journalism field, you should choose one which help you expand your career in the field you are already in, other wise, as you himself have said, you are gonna lose all your experience and start from the scratch.
It would be quite easy to suggest to other that you should do it and you shouldn’t do it, But as per my opinion you should take one that suits your current profession and your liking and skills. you can choose anything but until unless you wouldn’t be proficient in it you would no longer sustain your place in that industry, no matter whether that will be Oracle or CCNA. In every aspect of technology, you have to keep yourself update, take it any Oracle or CCNA. In Oracle you can make project on your own, but as a network professional you will need to solve problem arising in your network and for that you have to keep doing practice.
If you have done programming earlier, I would suggest that you must go for Oracle. Companies are going to retain only those people who are proficient in their work, skills and in one technology whether that is Oracle or CCNA, so you must not worry about that. Just keep enhancing your skills, that is what companies demanding today from their employees.

Which video hosting site to choose?
For a little over a year now my friends, and I have been making short little videos for the amusement of our other acquaintances. Something that has always troubled me though is how video hosting sites manage the videos I submit. For example, a friend pointed out that if a video becomes successful on Youtube it means Youtube can have the rights to the video itself. If this is true or false I am not sure.

In the end my question technically is, what video hosting site provides the least restrictions or tricks on your work? Which ones don’t put somewhere in their Terms & Agreements that they have full rights to whatever you upload, and instead let you fully keep your video?

I apologize if I ANNOY anyone with my ignorance concerning this subject matter, but if I got anything wrong just let me know because… THE MORE YOU KNOW…

If you copyright, or withhold all rights to your own work, youtube should not have any rights to the movies. I personally think youtube is the best place to start off. Read their user agreements and see if you can dig up any answers. I wish you the best of luck with your hobby.

say I want put a to link to a video hosting site that has copyrighted material that has been uploaded by some one else for all to watch,
lets say Avatar has been hosted on megavideo, I own the website with the links to that movie and I’m fully responsible for the content on the site, I’m sharing that link does it mean i’m sharing copyrighted material that has been uploaded by another? Now if I let 3rd party’s add a link to the movie onto my site I am I still responsable, If thats the case many of these sites ask if you want to share the link on facebook or twiitwer with your friends so then would these social networks be in breach also?

Obviously these social networking sites have terms an conditions to prevent them from prosecution but I could put the same terms and conditions surely.

hello, I am asking people that have web sites already to help me most! I am thinking of building a web site soon, but what would be the best host to choose from? I learned a little bit from guides on the internet already, and I have little picture of how to do it, I have a name for the site already, but now what I am most concerned about is choosing a host. What is the best option to make an official site?
What I plan is to have a place in the net where I can post unlimited photos and videos, share music and links (blogging is not really a main issue). I’m kind of searching for the features of a social site (like multiply, tumblr or facebook), and one that is customizable with CSS or HTML. My first option is actually to go for these social sites but they tend to loose popularity and people will not visit the site anymore. Unlike when I have my official site, it doesn’t have to go with who is currently the most famous social site on the net.

I initially wanted to make a website through free web hosting sites but they are very limited (storage space for photos and videos are very small and not customizable with CSS/HTML).

If anyone could give a good free web hosting site where I can (1) use CSS and (2) store loads of photos and vids, then please give me the link!

Upload Video To Multiple Video Hosting Sites At Once?
A few weeks ago I looked at a cool new web service that allows you to upload your videos to several video hosting sites at once. They had interfaces for YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video, AOL Video, Metacafe, etc on one page. Great!
It was a great service.

ok so i want to make my own website that is going to be totally free and that i can upload videos on (i don’t mind the adds!)
I have looked at webs.com um google sites and lots of othere places i just can’t remember.
But the promblem is all of the web hosting sites that i have been to don’t allow you to upload a video directly from your computer to the site they say you can put videos on youtube and upload them from there but i whethere not have a youtube account.so any suggested ideas or sites?

Hello there,

I am afraid to say that you cannot upload videos with free web hosting. Even the paid ones don’t allow you to upload videos but they do allow stream videos. Please try to understand that you cannot get everything for free. You need a dedicated server for your requirement.

If free web hosting would ever allow to upload videos, why will people upload on you tube? They would have uploaded on their own website and advertised it. Youtube would have sucked up by now. Nothing is for free in this market. There are some TOS.

I want to start an online company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have many ideas, but I’m not sure which one is more profitable. I can easily get all of the scripts to make my website ideas, since I’m an expert at coding and programming.

1. A website where users can list, buy, sell, auction, or trade websites and/or domains. Sign up would be free. Once the site gets a good reputation, I would then charge a small fee to list a website just so that the scammers would not want to post a scam. After a successful sale has been made, I would charge a small fee. The seller would be able to post a snapshot of the website, info, and the starting price for an auction and/or buy now price. There is some competition such as flippa.com, but hey, competition could be a good thing. If I can do something better than flippa, by either lowering fees, or adding features, people would want to come to my site. I would also sell ad space on the website. This idea is great because people are into the web flipping business, and many people want to run their own website in hard times like this.

2. A job website. I know, you think monster.com, but just read this please. Yes, it would be like monster.com. Employers and people wanting a job could sign up for free. At first, I would not charge anything to post a job opening to get many listings up on the site, but once the site gets going, I would then charge a small fee to employers to list the job that is open at their company. People wanting jobs have cool features such as a resume creator. They would then be able to find a job they like, post their resume, and the employer would be able to select anyone he wants for the job. I would also sell ad space on the site. Although sites like this exist such as monster, just like in the previous idea, if I can do something better than monster, i would get more visitors. This is a great idea since many people are looking for jobs now a days. They want an easy solution to get hired.

3. This next idea is a pay pal type of site. I know you are thinking that all of my ideas already exist, but listen, almost every idea in the world already has more than one person doing them. Think, pay pal was first, then came virtualgold and epay which were copies of pay pal, but now are making 5k a day! Even if an idea already exists, you can still do it if you make your site better in some way. So the site would allow users to sign up for an account using a credit card, and would be able to pay using their account. I would first have to gain peoples trust using the site so they will be willing to give up their credit card info to use. The basic idea is virtual money.

4. This site would be a image hosting site. Sort of like imageshack. Users would be able to upload their photos to a secure server, and store the photos. If they are out of town and they need a photo for let’s say a job offer,they can log into their account on the site, and access any photo. I would have a free upload where users can store x gb of photos for free, and i would also have larger plans which cost fees. Once photos are uploaded, they could be edited with the photo editor, sent to family and friends, or stored. Photo storage is a great thing since if a hard drive crashes, house fire, or something happens to your photos, you will have a backup on the site and your memories will be safe. I would also sell ad space on the website.

5. This would be a website for questions and answers. It would be just like this site, except it would have multimedia questions by video and or audio. I’m not a huge fan of this idea since YouTube is the leader and so is yahoo answers, but it’s an idea. I would sell ad space.

6. My last idea would be a real estate portal where buyers, sellers, and agents, could sign up for free and sellers could post their house for sale or rent on the site for a fee. I would also sell ad space.

Overall, I love the job site, marketplace for websites, virtual money, and the photo hosting site. I am not sure which idea out of all of the ideas could be the most profitable. I know someone is going to say that I need to have something unique, but I’m just trying to find out which idea out of these is most profitable. Even if you don’t like these ideas, which would you choose if you had too?

I think all of your ideas have some appeal, however, I also think it will cost a ton of money to do any of them. I’m don’t know how deep your pockets are, but they will need to be very deep to get a 6 figure income off the ground.

What is your opinion of tacky websites that host gory videos?
Should these sites be taken down for good or “If you don’t like it, then don’t click on them”?

I think websites like these should not be up in the World Wide Web for anyone to view them…that’s my opinion…but, one wonders why there’s random psycho attacks like the recent shootings at public places.

if you have a video hosting site, could you put google ads on video like youtube?
Could sites like metacafe and so on…put ads on videos to let people make money like youtube?

(I don’t think so but I’m just asking)

So this is my second Q ( answer this if your answer to the first Q is NO, and 99.999999999% you’ll say no )

If you have a video hosting site, how to let people make money by putting ads on their videos (I know how the system works, but not technically…I know that you have to have publishers who are the users of your site, you have to have an affiliate who is the admin of the site, and advertisers…) But what is the technical side? What do you need to let users on your site make money from their videos?

I know that, that’s not what I meant when i said the technical side…I meant, things like that :
how to insert ads on every vid
how to pay the user and charge the advertiser
how to set a price for each click….
That’s called the technical side “how the system work from the inside”

If I wanted your answer sir I would ask this Q on the financial section and not on the programing & design section… I know that answer and I’m not looking for such answer…

To start with to start charging for advertising like YouTube does to start withwith your need content and traffic to your site.

Steps
Decide on the type of content you wish to have on your site
Create a design for you site.
Developer creates the website
create or buy content creating fake users to people coming to your site for the first time think it already has a following
Create small pannels saying advertise here which opens a contact us form

You will need to decide how you charge those that advertise on your site (per click/displayed to so many users or what)

If your wanting people who post content to make money based on the traffic their content creates, depending on whether you want to give them money directly or points for advertising revenue that they help generate you will build your site to do this (if your doing it directly it would be easier for the developer to build the site to award points which can either be used on the site or traded in for cash with you paying out over paypal or something).

to set up this kind of site it will take money, a great hook and luck. just look about how many others are doing it already for specific categories like the porn industry,

if you need a developer you could try rentacoder if your going to try and do it on the cheaper side.

How Embed A Self Hosted Flash Video On A Word Press Sidebar ?
I have been looking for a way to post a flash video the I have hosted on my own servers on a word press “side bar” and not in the “posts” themselves. So ideally I would like to play the video on the front page.

I do not wish to use You Tube or one of the social networking sites. I have tried this with Flow Player and the JV player. I had partial luck with the Flow Player having my video hosted through an Amazon S3 account, though it took almost 2 minutes to get the video’s to load.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have your own videos playing on the front of your wordpress site and not just on posts ?

As you noticed, it’s going to take a while to load, which is why it’s not a good idea to add a video element to the main navigation area of your page.

If you absolutely must do this anyway, see the source below about embedding a flash object.

How can I stream my videos for free?
I have a few videos. I want them to be viewable on my website. One option is to upload the videos onto my website and add HTML tags but that doesn’t work well because the entire video loads first and then plays.

Another option is to upload them onto YouTube and add the embed code provided. But I’m not looking for that option.

If anyone has any other recommendations about how to stream video etc., please tell me. I have no problems in uploading videos on my own website or somewhere else. My hosting service provider also says that they do support streaming videos. But I have no clue about setting up video streams etc. Is there any service which asks you for your video URL and then generates a code/player for you to put it onto your HTML page? YouTube asks you to upload the videos on their own site. I’m asking whether there exists a service through which I can add my URL (mydomain.com/video.wmv) and get a code for streaming video?

How to take down a website?
I need help taking down a website. I’m sure the sites content is far beyond illegal and is setting an example that death, gore & violence is actually funny in reality, not just in movies and video games (people think its ok to laugh at that material in movies and video games.) The site hosts videos of murders and suicides and laugh at it. They seem to encourage self harming and after a few minutes on the site you will have already puked onto your desk. This site needs to be taken down. Its disgusting. Help anyone?

Have to completely and totally agree with what “Can’t Kill a Hashtag” has said here – technology advancements helps to expose things – (especially human rights violations) – that would normally go unheard of/unseen!

Of course, the true fact is: if the government were doing things legally, lawfully, and morally, then they wouldn’t have anything to hide – would they? If they weren’t violating human/state/national/international rights – then where’s the harm letting your average citizen film/take pics/blog the event? (Those who are guilty of such misconduct, *KNOW* that they are guilty – and that’s when I think they would have a problem with this, when they *KNOW* that they have done wrong!)

Now, it is true that there are certain things that the government has to keep quiet about – (especially when it comes to the safety of their people in regards to terrorism) – but that’s a *WHOLE* different scenario than what we’re talking about here, or even what I’m talking about above!

I would also like to add, that personally, if *I* were in trouble and somebody was abusing me, punching me, kicking me, shooting me, etc etc – in short, violating my very basic human rights – *I* would want the world to know about it! I would want other people to know about it – not just so people could feel sorry for me, but just so it wouldn’t happen to another person. (And, also, so the problem could be dealt with/corrected.)

Wouldn’t you want people (possibly even the world) to know – if something horrible happened to you?

Using Amazon S3 to host internet video clips?
I’ve heard that Amazon S3 is a good solution if you’re running a video sharing website, and need to host videos away from your server. 17-cents per GB sounds like a dream come true.

1) My first question: I just wanted to confirm that the above part is true, and that you can actually put all of your videos into this account, and simply link to them from your video site?

2) I am completely lost when logging into my Amazon S3 account and attempting to figure out how to access the web space and upload files. Everything on the menu sounds like some kind of technical jargon, and it is very user un-friendly. Where and how do I upload files? The site is a complete navigational nightmare, there isn’t a single link that says “file upload area” or something to that affect. I don’t even know where to go. I’ve read through the help section, and am still lost…

Software for S3 is good and all, but if you want to dynamically put videos on the S3, you will need to look at Amazon’s API and design a PHP script (probably using Curl) to send the files with a webserver instead of manually uploading them yourself (what you would have to do if you used external 3rd party software). I am an experienced PHP coder and could help you out with that for a price. When it first came out, I was unsure of the API’s structure, so I had another programmer help me with it and he charged me $3000, but I would do it for much cheaper.

OK I’m too lazy to do the research(!) But maybe someone knows already whether there are any sites out there that can host video, play back at decent quality and not brand your movies with a big logo stamp? Want to use it for a professional (but too cheap to pay) online show reel and a big YouTube logo in the corner would look very tacky…

You should check out Vimeo, it’s really slick. No big logo while it’s playing (in fact, the whole controller vanishes when the mouse is moved off or stays still) and a few other perks as well.

Also, there was one other decent one but I forgot the name. So that’s not super useful. I could probably dig it up for you if you can’t find anything else good in your answers.

Someone got into all my answers also and even put different answers that were not mine in my answer page. They reported me for nothing and made stuff up! I knew who did it and Yahoo did nothing. A certain Group got pissed at me and you tell me how got into my information. I gave Yahoo the Question and answer that it occurred from and they did nothing but play stupid. Asking me for this and that information that had nothing to do with the people involved. I never got my Points back, They never did anything to the people involved. Plus a lot of these people have different identities on here but are the same people. I believe their are inside jobs going on here! Friends of friends! Always a probability of corrupt workers. Help! I Need a Video Hosting Site?
I tried to upload a video to Photobucket; however, it gave me an error. I’m assuming it’s because on my video I added a piano mp3 to it. Also, it was a really old song, Fancy Pants by Floyd Cramer.
